Three price levels you should know
In practice, most business websites in Europe fall into one of three price levels. The lowest level is DIY solutions and pure template websites, typically built in Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress themes. These often cost between €0 and €1,500 to set up. You get a website, but you also get the limitations: rigid design, slow load times, and a visual signature that says 'template' to everyone who sees it.
The middle level is professional WordPress work or smaller freelancers. Here we're typically talking €2,500–€6,000. You get a more customized experience, but quality varies enormously — there's a big difference between a freelancer who has built three websites and one who has built three hundred.
The top level is custom websites built by agencies or specialists. These typically range from €6,000 to €15,000, depending on scope and complexity. Here you get strategy, design, code, SEO, and follow-up — and a website built to last five to ten years.
What drives the price up?
It's not the number of pages that drives the price — it's the complexity of each one. A homepage with animations, video, custom typography, and a well-thought-out conversion strategy takes five times as long as a standard 'we offer X, contact us' page.
Other factors that affect price include multilingual support, integrations with CRM or booking systems, e-commerce, customer portals, custom CMS solutions, and image and video production. Each of these can add €1,000 to €5,000 to the final sum.
