The Client
FjordVind is a comprehensive lice monitoring system for Norwegian salmon farms. The platform helps fish farmers track sea lice counts, mortality rates, and environmental conditions across multiple localities and cages. In Norway, salmon farmers are legally required to count lice weekly and report to the authorities — FjordVind digitizes this entire workflow.
The Problem
Norwegian salmon farmers face strict regulations around sea lice. They must count lice weekly, track mortality, and report to Mattilsynet (Norwegian Food Safety Authority). Most farms were using paper forms and spreadsheets — a time-consuming process prone to errors.
The challenge: Build a system that works everywhere. Fish farmers need to register counts while standing on a slippery boat deck, review data from their office, and generate reports for authorities. The solution needed to work seamlessly on mobile, tablet, and desktop.
What We Built
Cross-platform with Tauri + React Native
The system runs on three platforms from shared code: A Tauri desktop app for Windows/Mac/Linux, a React Native mobile app for iOS/Android, and a responsive web dashboard. Farmers can start a count on their phone at the cage, then review and submit from their office computer.
Real-time lice tracking with status indicators
The dashboard shows lice levels across all localities with color-coded status: green (<0.2 lice per fish), yellow (0.2-0.5), red (>0.5 — exceeds legal limit). Alerts notify farmers when levels approach the threshold, giving time to plan treatments.

Mortality tracking and trend analysis
Beyond lice counts, the system tracks fish mortality with cause classification (disease, handling, predator, environment, treatment). Historical data reveals patterns — helping farmers identify problem cages before mortality spikes.
The Result
FjordVind transformed lice counting from a paper-based chore into a streamlined digital workflow. Farmers register counts directly on their phones, data syncs instantly to the dashboard, and reports generate automatically.
The cross-platform approach means the system adapts to how farmers actually work: mobile at the cage, desktop at the office, tablet for site managers walking the facility. One system, three platforms, zero compromise.
